How we verify a deal
Most deal sites republish whatever the retailer calls a discount. Here is exactly what happens before anything appears on LXXO.
1. We track the price every day
For every listing we follow, we record the price once a day. That history is the only thing we trust. A retailer can print any MRP it likes next to a product; it cannot rewrite what the listing actually sold for last Tuesday.
2. We calculate the effective price, not the sticker price
Before comparing anything, we work out what you would actually pay:
- the listed price;
- minus one bank offer — the best one, since banks do not stack;
- minus any coupon that applies at checkout;
- plus platform and shipping fees, which most deal sites quietly leave out.
Offers a normal buyer cannot use — EMI-only interest rates, exchange bonuses that need a working old device — are listed on the page but never counted in the price we lead with.
3. We measure the real discount
A discount against MRP is close to meaningless in India, where MRPs are routinely set far above any price the product ever sells at. We measure against what the listing normally settles at. If something usually goes for ₹30,000 and today costs ₹24,000, the real saving is 20% — whatever the banner says.
4. We look for the tricks
The engine rejects or flags a listing when it finds:
- a quiet price increase in the days before a “sale”, so the discount is measured against a price nobody paid;
- a price that was cheaper within the last 45 days;
- an MRP far above anything the product has ever sold for;
- a saving under 3% against the recent average;
- an out-of-stock listing, a weak marketplace seller, or a poorly rated product;
- heavy platform fees that quietly undo the discount at checkout.
5. We score it out of 100
Every deal gets an LXXO Score built from nine weighted factors:
- price against the 30-day average — 20 points;
- distance from the all-time low — 20 points;
- discount against its usual price — 15 points;
- new all-time low — 15 points;
- usable coupon and bank benefit — 10 points;
- product quality, seller reliability, stock, and absence of inflation — 5 points each.
Detected problems then subtract from that total. A deal scoring below 60 is rejected outright. The homepage carries 80 and above; search and category pages may show 70 to 79.
6. A person still decides
The engine recommends; an editor publishes. We would rather publish ten deals a day that are genuinely worth buying than a hundred that are not.
